When I had the mad idea of starting my own business, I wasn’t sure how it would pan out. After all ‘what do I know about running a business’
I was always envious of people who had become their own bosses and I was adamant I could do it too. One thing was for sure, I didn’t want to get to later life and regretted I’d never given it a go! Nothing more annoying than regret.
If we take out the fact that 2020 was hijacked by Covid. Starting my own business, was both exciting and terrifying in equal measure – the cold sweats during the night, waking up realising I didn’t have a ‘proper’ job, wondering if everything would be ok, all pale into insignificance now – I’ve done it and done it with style.
The day after I left my full-time marketing and communications role, I landed my first contract – nothing massive, but enough to keep things ticking over and enough to give me the confidence I needed to know that I could do more.
Fast forward six months and Covid had taken the country by storm, but in my own little outdoor office, so was I!
I managed to continue to pick up new clients month on month, many of whom have become long-term contracts which I’m still working with today and some were only interim – either way I’m so very grateful to each and every one of them. For someone to have the belief in my abilities and to get paid for doing something I loved – was a double bonus.
So here I am, 12 months on and I can’t thank everyone enough – to all those people who have helped to guide me, offered me support and to those who continue to help champion me and my work – I really am so grateful.
It has become apparent that I owe a lot of people a lot of drinks to say thank you (I must be only person happy for pubs to stay closed for a little longer).
Looking ahead and the future is rosey, I have new and exciting opportunities on the horizon and the sun is shining. The best feeling though is knowing I can do anything I set my mind to and here’s the secret bit – so can you!
